Blackwater 10k
One of our athletes, Mark Curtis, made an appearance halfway across the county at the Blackwater 10k. The race was all in support of the local GAA club, all for a good cause. Mark finished in 52:15, well done on a great time, Mark.
All Ireland Juvenile Schools X-Country
The finale of the schools cross country took place on Saturday 11th and it took place only a hop, skip and a jump away from us, in the SETU Sports arena. We had one athlete competing, Emma Hickey in the Junior Girl’s category. She finished twelfth in an amazing time of 10:33.
Lisbon Half-Marathon
We had three of our Striders go continental for their race this week, running the Lisbon Half Marathon. Sandra Young finished in a time of 1:41:27, Liz Conway in 2:01:27 and Stephanie Walsh in 2:04:49. All three women had great runs.
Great Gorey Run
The town of Gorey was once again overtaken by runners with the Great Gorey run being held on Sunday morning. We had two of of our Striders competing, Noel Dempsey and D.J Dempsey. D.J finished in a time of 18:18 while Noel finished in 30:21. Well done lads.
Bohermeen Half Marathon
We had Striders head north to run the Bohermeen Half in the county of Meath. The Bohermeen race is prided on being a fast and flat course, and it didn’t disappoint. We had two Striders running, Sean Murphy and Thomas Moran. Thomas Moran finished in a time of 1:21:34, as he builds towards the Cork Marathon. Our resident You-Tuber, Sean Murphy also ran extremely well, finishing in 1:27:30.
NCAA Indoor Championships
A US Strider had great success as he competed in the highest level of the NCAA. Conor Murphy ran the 1 mile indoor for Virginia, getting into the finals. He placed sixth in the finals, finishing in an astounding time of 4:04:22.
Parkun
We had the usual great show of support at the JFK Parkrun on Saturday morning. Two of our own took the first positions in each gender. Thomas Moran won the male in a time of 19:04 while Emma Hannan was first woman in a fast 22:48. It’s always great to see so much support at our local parkrun
Leinster Masters Indoor
We had one athlete in the Leinster Masters Indoors, but she competed for a whole team. She participated in two events, the Shot-put and the Weight for Distance. She finished third in the shot-put, throwing 7:22 in it, an great result. She wasn’t done yet though, as she also took part in the weight-for-distance event. She took home the gold in this event, with a PB and Leinster Record of 5.16. She made the whole club proud today.
